One of the things I’ve had a TON of questions about on Instagram lately is my bamboo blinds! We’ve been busy little bees installing these all over our new house throughout the last few weeks and we’re just about done now. We still have a couple windows left to do, but I wanted to share a full review in case any of you are interested in getting bamboo blinds for your home. Mine are from SelectBlinds and that’s where I bought them from for our last home too! I actually reached out to them and they were wiling to give me a coupon for you guys. You can use SJBLOG to save 5% off your order and it even works with any sales they’re having too. And FYI–they’re having. huge sale today and tomorrow!
What kind of blinds did you order?
I got the premier bamboo blinds in the color maize. This is what I had in our last home too (remember the window seat?!) and I LOVE them.
Did you get the privacy lining?
YES! The lining is a must for me. It not only gives you lots of privacy, but the main reason we get that is because it adds a lot of warmth in the winter months. That lining really helps keep the heat in! There is also a black out lining option, which I’m sure is great too.
Are bamboo blinds hard to install?
Not at all. It does take a little bit to figure out how to do it, but SelectBlinds has great instructions on their website and their customer service is amazing. My husband can typically do one of our large windows in about 20-3o minutes. And it gets faster the more you do!
Did you get the motorized lift?
We didn’t find it necessary to get the motorized lift for our blinds, but we did do the cordless lift option. We didn’t do that last time and I really regretted it. The cordless design is kid-friendly and safe, which is super important if you have little ones in your home! Plus the bamboo blinds are still easy to pull up and down, and there’s no fussing with the cord. Highly recommend!
Are bamboo blinds worth the money?
Yes, yes, yes! Bamboo blinds are definitely a bit of an investment, but I feel like they are 100% worth the money. We love them. Especially during the winter months when it’s freezing out, it’s SO nice to be able to close all the blinds at night. The house just feels so cozy and warm. Plus it’s amazing to be able to get blinds custom made for your specific window size. From tiny to large, they can pretty much accommodate any size. And the quality is great. We haven’t had any issues at all with our blinds. I know they’ll last forever!
Here’s a few shots of how they look closed:
Well I hope that was helpful if you’re considering bamboo blinds for your own home. This week SelectBlinds is having a huge sale, so now is a great time to order if you’ve been waiting. Plus my coupon SJBLOG gives you another 5% off your entire order and they always do free shipping. Anyway, let me know if you still have questions–I’m happy to help! xo
Can I please see a picture with the blinds down?
yes! I just updated this post with 2 photos of them closed 🙂
Can you show a picture with them closed? And, it looks like there are two on your big window — is that correct? Makes sense, but just wondering. Finally, do you have any sliders where you used blinds? I’d love to see them. I’m starting to look at blinds for remodel/addition of a 100-year-old cabin! Thanks so much for sharing.
Just uploaded a few photos of them closed to this post! Hope that helps 🙂 I don’t use them on sliders but I think you totally could!
Can you give me a round about amount on how much your big window blinds cost? And where did you find your small coffee table? Love your house!
Hi Sarah! Love your blinds. I’m trying to order now and your code is not working. It’s a pretty big order so the extra 5 percent would make a difference. Please follow up soon.
Thanks so much!
Oh no! It should be JOYS5off. I’ll reach out to them!
I just heard back from them and the code should be working! Try again and le the know if it goes through for you!
Nevermind! The coupon is now JOYS5. Sorry for the confusion Lori!
They look great!
Beautiful home! What color are your walls?
I’m curious too what people do for sliders…
Ugh. Just ordered these same ones for inside mount. The way our washes are on the window – they aren’t like flush. 😩😩 So, so sad – all that money and they aren’t ‘perfect’ 😩 any suggestions? I called to see if they could trim them but no such luck.
Window sash – not wash
What do the blinds look like from the outside? Just curious to see if I would like the look of them from the outside. I have a few windows that face busy streets, so wondering how they would look. Thanks! BTW, I love what you’re doing I. Your new home.
I don’t have a photo of that, but they do totally block anyone from seeing inside!
I have this same question. Not concerned about them seeing in but concerned of what it does to the looks of the exterior of the house. Can you show what the look like on the back side?
How are they to clean? Do they collect alot of dust?
Super easy! I just wipe then down with a damp towel.
What color lining did you use with maize color bamboo blinds?
I’m trying to order before the sale ends! I just measured and my window is too wide. I see that you did 2 on your big window. Did you just divide the measurement in half and order 2? I’m so scared I’m going to mess up.😰
Yes that’s how we did it!
Love your blinds and your total home decor ! Love them “drapes”…where did you purchase them?” Keep on keeping on – letting us know what is going on. Can’t get enough of your beautiful home.
Can you please share what type and brand of wood flooring did you use for your kitchen/dining/
Living area ? I love the color and exactly the lighter look I am wanting.
Thank you. Your home is calming and beautiful !
HiSarah, Are your shades the same color outside as they are on the inside?
The bamboo blind’s review here is fantastic, and I want to thank the writer for doing a tremendous job. I will share this review with my colleagues now and get their opinion on it.
Hi – Are you still happy with your decision to go with the cordless lift over the motorized option? I am debating between the two.
I’d like to know about your flooring as well. Where did you get it? Name? Brand? Many thanks!
This is actually from Home Depot! It’s real hardwood. we love it! I have a whole post about it here: https://sarahjoyblog.com/review-of-our-wood-floors-from-home-depot
Hi, we have a long open balcony, it makes the hall and room very hot during summer. Can the bamboo blinds helps in reducing the heat from direct sunlight
