Easy & Quick Fresh Eggs Sign

Goodness, it feels like forever since I last posted. Life has just been a bit wacky lately between work, my husband’s crazy schedule, family visits, etc. Oh and our AC broke down last week. Yep, right in the middle of a 95 degree day. What kind of malarky is that? I shared on Instagram that right after it went out I was scouring Amazon for those nifty neck coolers. You know, the ones that go around your neck like a large tube. Verrrry attractive. In fact, all the cool kids wear them. (get it?? Ha.) The good news is my handy husband was able to fix the AC in just 2 days, so I didn’t need a neck cooler after all. And the even better news is that I’m tickled pink to be back today with a new post. Yay! Remember that galvanized fresh eggs sign you saw in my dining room a few posts back? Well today I’m showing you how I made it and as usual, it’s super duper easy.

Cute, right? This was very simple to put together. All you need is metal cutouts and an old piece of wood, obviously.

First I cleaned up the wood a bit to remove any dirt and loose chunks of that lovely chippy white paint.

Next I gave the wood 2 coats of the Zinsser Shellac finishing spray. I like to use this stuff on anything chippy, like all my old windows and doors, because I feel like it seals the wood and keeps the paint from chipping any further.

Before nailing the metal cutouts onto the wood, I first used a small drill bit to put a few holes in each cutout. This metal is pretty thin, but it was still too thick to put a nail through easily. So this worked really well. After that I laid out the signs on the board and nailed them into place using the holes I drilled.

This whole process literally took maybe 20 minutes at most. Easy peasy, just how I like it. We screwed it up on the wall above my vintage apron rack and called it good.

 

I had a hard time choosing where to put this sign. My first thought was the kitchen, although the dining room won out. But let’s be honest, there’s a good chance it will get moved to a new spot in a few months. You know how I roll! If you’re wondering where to find metal cutouts like these, I’d suggest checking your local antique shops and home decor boutiques–I see them all over. I’ve also spotted them at flea markets. And definitely check for metal cutouts on Etsy, I know there’s a few decent options there as well.
