Welp, we already got a project checked off that to-do I made last weekend (see more on that here)–we put shiplap in the basement media cabinet!! We finished it up late last night and I LOVE how it turned out. And I’ve actually wanted to do this since our basement was finished last fall, mostly because that empty space behind our TV seemed a lot bigger than I had anticipated. I actually designed the whole thing, but I didn’t plan well for the huge empty spot in between the shelves. It always looked unfinished to me. But we finally got some shiplap in that spot and it looks SO much better. Here’s how it looked before:
And here’s how it looks now with shiplap:
What a change right?! So simple, but I feel like it made a HUGE difference. It really does make this media center feel more complete and cohesive now. It’s the focal point of the whole basement.
I know it’s not for everyone, but I looooooove me some shiplap. In fact, I would be tickled pink to shiplap the entire basement one day. It just makes me happy, plus it instantly makes any space feel more cozy and inviting. Anyway, thanks for dropping by the blog today! I’d love to hear what you think of this new look in the media center. xoxo
I did not think it could look better, but it does.
ah thank you Betty!
Forgot to ask, where did you get the pretty potted plants with the oranges on them.
Those are from Target but I can’t seem to find the link anymore.
Thanks Sarah. I will check and see if they still have them.
Absolutely love it! I’m a big fan of shiplap too! You’d never know it wasn’t there all along, it really looks finished.
yessss!! It definitely looks complete now.
Love, love, love. You are correct, instant coziness!
thanks so much Peggy!
Good Morning Sarah
I just love it as it certainly is perfect for that spot! One question I have is “ Is it ok to save your house pictures.” Looks like they go on Pinterest, I thought I could save them on my personal photos. Someday I will be able to decorate my house like yours, I love it. Please let me know ok
yes of course you can save any of the photos you like!!
It’s so cozy and warm. I love it.
Thanks Martha!
I love shiplap too. And where you put it is perfect. Did you use real wood or is it wallpaper or what? I know you have a very handy husband and father in law. So you’re very lucky. I don’t so I had to wallpaper one room in my bedroom to look like shiplap. But that’s ok, it works.
I love the shiplap and the whole media center – it’s all beautiful! I have a question though. The carpet that is under the area rug is also beautiful and I wondered if you wouldn’t mind telling me what brand and style it is. I love that sculptured look and am looking for a new carpet for my tv room. Thanks
I wish I could remember the info on that, but we picked that our from a local dealer here in Colorado last summer and I don’t have the info anymore. I’m sorry Patricia!
Thanks anyway! I love your house.
Great idea, looks so cute!!
thanks Mary!

thank you for being here Sharron, I appreciate that so much!
Love your basement finish so so talented
Hi it looks amazing. Quick question – what’s the white paint and color you you’ve used on the shiplap and the wall ?
It looks fantastic, what was the cost ? I’d love to do this in our home
Did you build this entire entertainment center or did you buy pieces
We had it custom built when we finished our basement.
