Wood Floors from Home Depot- My Full Review

One of the most commonly asked questions I get on Instagram is about our wood floors from Home Depot. Where did we get it? How is it holding up? Do I like it? I tried to answer these questions as often as I can in stories, but I thought it might be helpful to put all that info in one spot so anyone can reference this in the future. So here’s a full review of our wood floors from Home Depot!

Review of Our Wood Floors from Home Depot

Finding the Floor:

When we bought this house, the builder installed carpet and laminate flooring throughout the entire home. (We were late to the building process, we didn’t get to choose flooring.) Right away I knew we’d want to change out the flooring for something more our style and more durable. I really wanted a light oak, solid hardwood floor, so I started the arduous task of visiting every flooring store in a 45 mile radius. I got SO many samples, but nothing fit the bill for what I wanted. Then on a whim, I decided to check out flooring at Home Depot. Much to my surprise, they had exactly what I wanted: light oak, solid hardwood, distressed texture, with a matte finish. It’s called Malibu Wide Plank French Oak Point Reyes Solid Hardwood Floor.

Installing the Wood Floor:

After removing the carpet and laminate flooring, we hired a contractor to install the wood floors from Home Depot. We ordered all of it online and the it took about 2 weeks for delivery. But since this flooring comes pre-finished, there was no staining or sanding. So the install process only took about 3 days total and then we were able to move in right away.

My Review of the Wood Floors from Home Depot:

We have lived with this floor for six months now and I can honestly say I LOVE it. I am sooooo happy with it and so grateful we decided to install it right away, before we ever moved in. It’s been incredible and it’s truly my dream floor. So far, there have been no issues with it scratching. No dents. Nothing. And that is saying a lot because I move furniture around all the time. Plus we have three kiddos. But this stuff is super durable. It was finished with seven coats of ultra-low-gloss urethane finish with aluminum oxide, so these floors are made to LAST.

Installation Tip

When we removed the old floors, we had to decide if we wanted to remove the baseboards. That is typically what’s done when installing a new floor, but that was going to cost us a lot of extra money and time. So we installed this floor with the baseboards in place. The floor went up against the baseboard, then we used quarter round to finish it off and cover up any gaps. Such a great trick to save money and time on installing new baseboards!

FAQ:

Would you put them in again?

Yes, 1000%. We love them and they are exactly the color and texture I wanted for our home.

Is it solid hardwood?

Yes, they are 3/4″ solid hardwood.

Some of the reviews say the black knots look like they were drawn on by sharpie?

I actually saw that review before we purchased the floor, but I don’t feel that way at all. In my opinion, the knots are super authentic looking and I love how they add dimension to the floor.

How is it holding up in the bathroom?

We did install this floor in our power bathroom and it’s doing great so far! NO issues at all.

How did the price compare to other flooring you looked at?

Compared to allllll the samples I got from from flooring stores, these floors were the most affordable option we found. I was honestly surprised at the price, because many similar we found were double (or more!) of the cost of these floors. Home Depot had the best price!

How do you clean them?

I use my cordless vacuum for dust and crumbs. Then we clean the floor with Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner and this hardwood floor mop.

Do they dent or scratch easily?

Not at all. I’ve even dropped some super heavy stuff on the floor and there’s been zero damage. I’m honestly amazed at the durability of this floor!

Well I hope this is helpful if you’re shopping for new wood flooring. If you still have any questions, feel free to ask away. I’m happy to help! xo

LOOVVEE this floor! Thank you SO much for sharing! Question – any idea with the 7 layers of coverage if a steam mop could be used on it?

I went through same decision process last year after damage from water heater leak. I was nervous to purchase from Home Depot but the Malibu Wide plank Delano was the exact white oak color and look I wanted. I chose the 1/2” version and was concerned about the higher price but the salesman sent to the bidding department (since it was a large order) and I got it fit the same price as the 3/4”. I did the entire house in it and after 8 months I couldn’t be happier. Always nice to see other people enjoying this beautiful flooring too!

Other than our powder bathroom, do have tile in all the bathrooms! Wood floor in all the bedrooms, other than our basement bonus room.

Love these floors! I’m super sensitive, did you notice any off gassing or strong smell from the floors right out of the box or when installing? Thanks!

I’m considering putting this flooring in the main living area of my home… kitchen, dining room, family room. My question is about dirt…. I have 3 kids and I was wondering how well it hides crumbs, dirt, etc. Thank you!

Hello! Your floors look amazing! I am trying to decide between laminate & wood. Have you had any spills on it? Does water ruin it or show up as water spots? Thanks!!
