Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Hood Makeover

Howdy ho there and happy Tuesday to you! I’m getting this post up late today because the honest truth is I couldn’t get my booty out of bed this morning. I usually set my alarm for 5:15am on weekdays so I can work and get some things done before the kiddos get up and we have to do the mad dash to get everyone out the door to school. But today I just couldn’t do it. I kept hitting the snooze like a lazy bum. But I’m here now! And today I’m super excited to share our modern farmhouse kitchen hood makeover. This project just wrapped up last week and I’m SMITTEN with it. I can’t wait for you to see how it looks! Here’s how it was before:

And here’s how it looks now with the new kitchen hood:

Quite the change, right?! I’ve been dreaming about this kitchen hood for weeks now and it’s SO cool to see her finished. This is exactly what I envisioned for our kitchen and our contractor did a really great job. The wood part of the hood is actually our hardwood floor. I love it!

The tile behind the microwave stopped about nine inches lower than it needed to be for the kitchen hood, so that was definitely a problem. Thankfully I was able to find our exact backsplash tile on Amazon. I got the last box!

I debated whether or not the hood should run all the way up to the ceiling, but I’m so glad we decided to go for it. Now it’s really the focal point of the kitchen! And the shiplap ties in perfectly with the shiplap in the living room and dining room. It’s simple, but it brings a lot of extra warmth to this kitchen.

This kitchen hood makeover is definitely one of my favorite projects we’ve done in the new house so far. I’ve always wanted a big hood like this and I’m so grateful to finally have one. This place is really starting to feel like home now and I’m feeling so much more settled than I did even a few weeks ago. It’s amazing how putting your personal touch on things can slowly but surely start to create a sense of belonging. I’m loving our little house on the prairie and so grateful for this journey!

Thanks so much for hanging out with me today. Sending big hugs your way!! xo

We don’t use it that much! We have a toaster oven for reheating food.

It’s beautiful! What did you do with the microwave? I have one under cabinets but want a hood and uncertain as to what to do with the microwave.

What a great addition to your beautiful kitchen. It looks terrific.
This is just the inspiration picture I need for our kitchen. Our now 20-year-old house has these same ceilings with only the microwave and hood vent combo for the stove, which means any oils from cooking end up on the surrounding upper cabinets.
We have a whitewashed beam in our family room/kitchen/hallway area so the idea of using wood flooring pieces would coordinate perfectly. Thanks!

Beautiful kitchen, and love the hood with the wood and shiplap. Everything ties in beautifully! If you ever want to add a microwave, Sharp carries a “drawer” microwave that would fit into the island. Very convenient. Thank you for sharing ! 🙂

haha yeah so many questions about the microwave! We didn’t have one at the last house either. It’s just one of those things we never really used. We reheat food in a little toaster oven.

What do you plan to do to the space above your cabinets? I have 14ft ceilings in my kitchen so it looks very similar to yours. I have struggled with whether to leave the space empty or possibly hang stained glass above or wood shelving. Would love to hear your thoughts. I cannot find many pictures with high ceilings in a kitchen and cabinets that don’t go all the way up. Thanks! And the hood is beautiful! 😍

Every part of your kitchen is stunning!
Sounds like a lot of us are amazed that you don’t have a microwave. I couldn’t live without mine. However, I’ve lived in my home for 35 years and raised a family without a dishwasher. I hated living out of it when I did have one so I didn’t have one installed when I moved into my first and only new home. I only missed it on Thanksgiving!

It’s really cool! Adds a lot of warmth and what a great idea to use your flooring. Lucky you were able to source your tile too! What did you do with the microwave?

I LOVE your kitchen and hood makeover. We recently bought a home and having been redoing it. Your kitchen was the one I modeled mine after. We are trying to figure out how to DIY the hood. Do you have your step by step process by any chance?? 🙂 I love following you! Great job and beautiful home!
