The New Railing on the Stairs is Done!

You guys, it’s finally DONE. We finally finished the staircase/new railing!! And it looks SO dang good. I can’t get over how different this space looks now–it’s 100% more open and bright without that huge wall in the way. The before and after photos are crazzzzzzzy. I can’t wait to show you!! Here’s how it looked before:

This is the door that went down to our basement. As you can see here, with the door open it barely cleared the wall in the hallway. It was a super tight space. I knew opening this wall up with be a total game changer. So last July we started the very slow process of doing just that. It took so long, but it was worth it. Here’s a progress photo:

We thought they’d need to leave a post for support, but thankfully the contractor we hired to removed this section of wall was able to take it out completely! Here’s how it looks now:

SO crazy, right?! This is the exact same view and it just blows my mind. Removing that section of wall was a total game changer. It totally transformed this space and made it look so much bigger!

As with most projects, the domino effect was in full force with this one. Once we removed that wall, we realized we’d need a new railing for the upper section to match the railing on the new opened up wall. Tons of people on IG recommended View Rail, so that’s where we had our new railing made. We sent them all the measurements and they manufactured this amazing railing. The installation process was definitely not as easy as we hoped, but in the end it was worth all the effort! Plus doing it through View Rail is more budget friendly than hiring a contractor to do the whole thing.

This is by far one of my favorite projects to date. It made such a huge difference. I’d love to hear what you think!
