Happy Sunday guys! Today I’m finally sharing an update on our house painting progress. I’ve been putting off posting this because we’re planning to paint the trim around the windows, which we haven’t done yet thanks to it being the dead of winter and freezing most of the time, but I decided to go ahead and share a quick update on how things look after the majority of the work has been done. If you remember this post I shared back in November, we were trying to decide on the perfect shade of white for the exterior of our home. I had it narrowed down to a few of my favorite options and I asked you guys to help us decide which way to go. Well, Oyster White by Sherwin Williams was the group favorite and that’s actually the color I loved the most as well. So that’s what we went with! I’m excited to show you how it looks today, it’s soooooo much better. Let’s get started with the before photo of our slightly weird looking 1980’s home:

And here’s how it looks now:
What a difference, huh? I love it. And I’m so happy we decided to paint the brick too, even though it was a bit more expensive. I just couldn’t imagine painting the house and leaving that 1980’s yellow brick. The color we chose for the doors and trim was Warm Stone by Sherwin Williams. I actually thought it would be a bit darker, but I still think it looks nice with the Oyster White.
So even though it’s winter and everything is dead and awful looking, I thought it would be fun to share a few other photos of our home.
Our lot is just under an acre, which feels pretty big compared to our previous homes and tiny backyards. The kids love it, I just wish we could get chickens. Chickens are awesome folks. I grew up raising them and one hen in particular was just the sweetest thing ever. I named her Percy and she would literally sprint across the yard to see me. I carried her around all the time–we were the best of friends.
The upper deck goes to our master bedroom. I absolutely love having a deck out of our room, the views from up there are amazing. Unfortunately I don’t get to enjoy it as much as I’d like, but I’m hoping to get out there more this summer.

I know I probably sound like a broken record at this point, but I seriously cannot wait for spring and summer. I’m dreaming about green grass, blooming flowers, and beautiful trees. And if I’m being honest with you guys, I even hesitated to share these photos today because it’s so brown and ugly right now. But I’m all about being real, so that’s what you’re going to get—brown, dead grass. And even though we don’t have a traditional farmhouse with a big dreamy wrap-around porch, this quirky 1980’s home is full of charm in its own right. This is what God has given us and I’m grateful for that every day.
Well that’s all for me today my friends. I’d love to hear what you think of the Oyster White. And I’ll be sure to share another update after we get the trim around the windows painted this spring. I think that will really pull it all together, but I still love it so much more than what we had before–especially that yellow brick. It’s amazing what 32 gallons of paint can do!

It looks absolutely beautiful! And yes, I’m getting antsy for spring too!!!
Thanks Leslie. And hang in there, spring is not far off now!
Love the new look !! 🙂
Thank you Sandy!
HI Sarah, your house looks gorgeous, and painting the brick was a good move on your part!! Now, however, you’re going to need to gussy-up your front entryway. SherwinWilliams has a product called concrete stain, (but to me it’s more like a paint). Anyway, it comes in several colors, and covers up old, dis colored concrete. I painted my front porch landing and stairs with it and it looks so awesome! Also, you may want to consider adding a small area rug but that would require finding “just the right one”. One more thing, you could paint the little window frame piece leaning against the side wall of your entry, a darker color, so it will stand out/show up better against the new house paint. I recently began following you and have enjoyed you very much, and find I really look forward to reading each new post!!!
I have ALWAYS loved painted brick and I’m so jealous. We live in an HOA that won’t let us paint our brick. Great color choice too. Looks just like you and your fantabulously cute style! Congrats!
Oh dang, I hate when HOA’s are so controlling like that–it’s not like you want to paint the brick hot pink! Thanks for stopping by Cindy!
I don’t read many blogs, but yours is spectacular! I also follow you on Instagram, and look forward to seeing more photos of your beautiful and comfortable home!
Gah! Jennifer you are so darn sweet, thank you so much for those kind words–I can’t tell you how much that means to me!
It looks so good! And I love you being real with the dead grass…lol!
It’s always so good to make a house your own and make your mark on it. So glad that God has you exactly where He wants you!
Ha Thanks Leigh! I can’t wait for things to get green and pretty. That ugly dead grass needs to go pronto!
Love it Sarah! Such a gorgeous home you have! I would love to have a bigger yard.. someday lol.
Thanks Courtney, it sure is nice after living in homes with teensy tiny backyards for so long!
IT looks wonderful and I’m so glad you went went that color!! It is really going to pop when everything starts to turn green!! Well done!
Oh I agree Donalee, it’s going to look so good with everything green and pretty. I can’t wait! Thanks for stopping by friend.
Wow, what a difference the painted brick makes! And I’ve got to admit that I’m a bit jealous of the 3 level deck on the back. It’s pretty awesome. I’m thinking of getting a hot tub. Do you use your tub often enough to justify the cost?
Oh yeah, we use the hot tub all the time. It’s been awesome actually, although it is a lot to keep up with every month and kind of pricey. Thankfully my husband keeps up with all of the chemicals and cleaning! 🙂
I think it looks lovely! I think us Coloradans get so antsy for Spring because we get these gorgeous 60-70 degree days and then BOOM..Snow again. I was looking at my gardens and saw some tips of tulips coming up! Only two more months! Anyway, love the changes to your home.
Sarah, your house looks amazing! I love it painted all white…it may not be a farmhouse but the design of it is great!
You have mad decorating skills..I think you could make a cardboard box gorgeous!! Lol
Aw you are so sweet, thanks Sherri I really appreciate that!
Love the painted brick! Great job!
Looks really nice!! Paint makes for an amazing transformation. Spring and summer will be here before we know it. We will be halfway through February tomorrow. Love all your posts. We are digging out from 10-12 inches of snow we got yesterday and overnight. I have a bouquet of flowers on my kitchen table reminding me of spring.
Oh goodness Wendy, that is a lot of snow! We’ve been lucky here lately in Colorado, it’s been pretty mild. I’m really, really hoping it stays that way. Wishful thinking, right?? Thanks for dropping by!
Sarah
It looks great, perfect color. Thanks for sharing…maybe I can get motivated.
I too am going to paint my brick this color. Yours is gorgeous! What color did you use for your door? It goes nice with the brick color.
Hey! I’ve been following you for a little while now, and was recently googling “white exterior farmhouse” because we are also in a fixer upper and wanting to paint the outside, and this blog of your popped up! We are trying to decide on Oyster White or Pure White by SW. do you happen to remember what type paint you used? I’m sure the guys at SW could help with that but just curious if you remembered.
We went with Oyster White and I love it!
What color did you paint the trim and the door?
