The Friday Five: Easy Homemade Applesauce, Favorite Coat + More

You guys, I’m running in my first ever 10k this weekend. Eeeek! I’m actually really excited about it, despite the fact that I don’t feel all that prepared. I’ve been running consistently for about two months now, but I’m not naturally a great runner, you know what I mean? It’s just something I’ve fallen in love with recently and I really enjoy it. So far my furthest run has only been five miles and let me tell you–that was pretty dang painful towards the end. I’m not sure how I’ll manage to squeeze another couple miles in there, but it’s happening! And to add to the fun, my husband is running with me too. Fingers crossed we make it. Anyway, today I wanted pop in with a few random tidbits from the week!

The Friday Five

  • This week I came across Bethany Hamilton’s website and I instantly got pulled in. She wrote a quick post about “mastering the daily” and it really resonated with me. She talks about how if we are consistent and dedicated, focusing on living each day well, the rest of our story takes care of itself. So simple, but SO true!
  • It’s been a few weeks now and I’m still going strong with no coffee in the afternoon. And I have to say–I’m actually liking the change. I know that sounds like pure craziness coming from a coffee addict like me, but I was drinking WAY too much. I think it was adding to my anxiety more than I realized. Plus I was always dehydrated. I’m drinking more water throughout the day now and sparkling water in the afternoon when I want something “fun” to drink. I feel like my energy levels are more consistent and I’m also sleeping better now too, which is a HUGE plus.
  • We had snow here in Colorado yesterday. Yep, SNOW. We got about two inches and it was freezing cold, so I busted out my favorite winter coat. It’s actually 50% off right now, so check it out if you need a good coat for winter this year. It comes in a few color options and I wear a size medium.
  • Tula just launched a line of products specifically for acne prone skin and I’ve been using it for a few weeks now. The cleanser is awesome and they even came out with a really great spot treatment. Highly recommend if you or someone you know struggles with breakouts! (As always my Tula coupon SARAHJOY is good for 20% off.)
  • I made slow cooker cinnamon applesauce on IG stories last week and I’ve had so many people write me to say they made it too and loved it! I know a lot of you aren’t on social media, so I wanted to share the recipe here!

Slow Cooker Cinnamon Applesauce

  • 6 medium Gala apples
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup sugar depending on how sweet you want it
  • 1/2 cup water

Peel and cut the apples. Place in crock pot with sugar, cinnamon and water. Cook on high for 3 hours. When done cooking, use a whisk to stir until smooth. Best when served warm (we love it with ice cream!). This recipe makes a small batch. I recommend doubling or even tripling it if you want left overs!

Happy weekend buddies!! I’ll see you back here next week. xoxo

Good luck in your 10k! You will do great! I’m not a natural runner either nor do I enjoy running. LOL. Give me a pretty country road and I’ll walk for days but if I’m running y’all should run, too, because I’m probably being chased. πŸ™‚

Can you cook it in an insta pot? How long should it take. I would love to be able to do that for fall gifts along with my whipped raw cinnamon honey. It is soooo good and so easy. I can share that with you if you like. It spreads like butter but smother. Great on a warm piece of bread in the am or a snack with apples. Health and Happiness,
    Randy

Good luck on the 10k. You’ll be happy to know that it will only be one mile over the 5 miles you can already run, instead of a “couple”more miles. πŸ™‚ I’m also a runner, but I’ve backed off on the distance running since it’s harder now that I’m older.

  • Mom finished her first 10k πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ» It was such a fun day & I’m honestly so glad I decided to challenge myself & do this. Sure, it was only 6.2 miles, but this race (and all of my running leading up to it) was one of the first things I’ve done for myself in a loooooong time. My health has totally been on the back burner since having my third baby. But three months ago I started running to help with my anxiety & worry-about-all-the-things syndrome. I fell in love & it’s been SO good for me. Running is one of my favorite things to do now πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» I want to encourage all of my fellow mama’s out there to make time for yourself. Do something for YOU. Take the class. Book the ticket. Go for the run. You are worth it! ❀️❀️
  • Cheers to the weekend, coffee in bed + sunshine in the forecast πŸ™ŒπŸ»β˜€οΈ Our snow is melting, which is GOOD news because my first 10K is tomorrow. Eeeek! Fingers crossed I can make it through with my old lady hipπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’¨Happy weekend buddies! ❀️ http://liketk.it/2FL0i #liketkit @liketoknow.it #ltkhome
  • Breaking News: It snowed in Colorado today ❄️❄️ Normally I’d be less than thrilled about this kind of thing, but I figure why not have a little fun. Sometimes you just gotta accept what you can’t change & make the best of it, right?! Besides, doing a live weather report in the freezing snow is pretty fun. (watch my stories if you missed it!) Happy almost-weekend buddies! ❀️
  • It’s totally normal to carry around a pumpkin in October, right?! And by normal I mean awkward. Because that’s what I do best. Clearly. πŸ™ˆ I shared a quick decorate with me video in stories yesterday + we styled this cabinet for fall πŸ‚πŸ‚ I also have a new blog post up today & it’s 10 affordable fall finds from Amazon. I found some GOOD stuff + it’s all super affordable. Head to the blog to check it out! πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ» http://liketk.it/2FFiR #liketkit @liketoknow.it #LTKhome

  • Snug as a bug in the coziest weekend spot πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ‚ I finally got the back patio spiffied up for fall & this is officially my new favorite spot to hang out.
