Table Makeover with Chalk Paint

Fabulous news my friends–my favorite consignment store is back open! I dropped by there this past weekend and it felt so good to see that cute little place up and running again. There were other human beings there and everything. Obviously we all had masks on, but it was GREAT. I thoroughly enjoyed it. And the best part of all is that I found a project for a little table makeover! I bought an adorable wooden table and I can’t wait to show you guys what I did with it. Here’s what the little table looked like when I bought it:

Before

Kinda cute, right?! I found this shoved in a sad corner of forgotten things at the consignment store and I barely even noticed it. But I saw the potential and I knew it would be such a fun piece to style. I got it for $30. BOOYAH. I decided to paint it with the Magnolia Home chalk paint in the color Garden Trowel. Here’s how it looks now:

This little table turned out so much better than I expected! I did two coats of paint and then I distressed it a bit with sandpaper. Then I styled it with this rectangle wicker tray and lots of greenery (I love these $5 faux potted plants!) and my beloved ZZ plant. Now it’s such a cute little plant stand.

I love doing easy furniture makeovers like this–they’re just so satisfying and I’m all about the instant gratification. From start to finish this whole project took an hour at most and BOOM. Now I have an adorable little plant stand for all my plants. Or at least my faux plants. Either way it’s a win!

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today. I hope this project gives you an idea or two for your own home. Let me know what you think of this table makeover! xo

Aha! You just gave me the idea to redo some of my furniture with chalk paint, leaving the table tops natural wood. Thank you for the beautiful prodding! I love that piece of furniture!

I would have never bought that table and then be so mad at myself for passing it up when I saw what you did. I don’t have that what it could be vision.

It’s a really cute table but I have a question. Why would you mix a real plant with fake ones?

Such a cute little table ! Love the color that you chose – looks so nice in your living room. Did you scuff up the piece with sandpaper before applying the chalking or just put it on ? I’m asking because it looks glossy and I’ve had trouble before with things not adhering ! Great job !!

        You scuff/distress after you paint.

Chalk painting doesn’t require any prep. I would just clean the item to be painted. Chalk paint adheres to most finishes.

Hi there! I enjoy your blog and especially like the links to items you’ve found! I’ve ordered several things and have enjoyed them all! I remember a link you once shared for a set of two botanicals prints that were large, framed, and I think in your bedroom at one point? Can you please tell me where you found those? I really liked them and didn’t order them when you posted them and now regret it! Thank you so much!
