New Countertops in the Kitchen

Back on Labor Day weekend I ordered new kitchen countertops and you guys–they FINALLY got installed this week! Talk about a long wait, right?! I’ve been so excited for this day and I can’t wait to show you how they look. It totally changed the whole vibe of this space. Ok I have a lot of photos to share, so let’s start with a quick look at what the kitchen looked like right after were moved in (and after we changed out the floors).

And then how they looked this summer:

And here’s how it looks now, with the new countertops:

What a change, right?! It’s amazing how this seemingly small change made such a huge difference in the feel of our kitchen. It not only looks bigger, but it feels so much bigger too. I love it. This is a soft white quartz with light gray and gold veins.

It’s been a lot of fun to slowly take this builder grade house and turn it into something that feels more like us. I was doing a Q&A on Instagram stories last night and someone asked why I didn’t just choose countertops I loved from the start. Totally fair question! But we didn’t find this house until it was about 95% complete, so we had no choices at all when it came to finishes, layout, or design. And the truth is I was never crazy about the house. My husband and I really wanted the land and privacy that came with this 10 acre lot, so we went for it, know we’d change things over time. And I’ve actually enjoyed that process! It’s been awesome to see this place evolve in the last 18 months.

Well thanks so much for dropping by the blog today. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

Sarah, it’s absolutely beautiful. I have white quartz with grey veins and I love it. You will too. My other house had beautiful granite but very very busy. I love the simplicity. Gotta admit I’m a bit jealous of that oven!! When I get more settled in new house I want to decorate washroom like yours. Makes it not such a chore to go in there. lol Hope y’all have a Merry Christmas with just the right amount of snow. 😘

Seriously looks SO.dang.good. What an evolution your home has gone through! Question: how do you decide which project to work on next? Do you go with the “problem” area that is bugging you the most, or do you go by budget- which project you can afford to do at the time, etc. ? Thanks! ✨

That’s a great question! There are so many projects running through my mind every single day, so I definitely have to narrow things down to what’s most important and what fits in the budget at the time! LOTS I’d love to do still, but way too expensive so I focus on smaller projects one at a time 🙂

Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, you just amaze me. I love you. I love you joy for life, family, the Lord, your house and all things decorated. I have so much of your tastes in decor in my home now. lol Back to your countertops. At first I was like, the black and white countertops are beautiful, why change them? The black in them goes with all the black accents. Then I looked at the new countertops. Oh, my, goodness! Those are absolutely GORGEOUS!!! I’m so jealous. (But in a good way, of course. lol) They look so good and of course how you decorate them is beautiful. Your husband must be so proud of you. I am no way in your league, but my husband loves how I decorate and he gets so proud when others comment on it. One woman said that my home feels like a hug! Awww. To me, that was the best compliment I could get. Right? Thank you for being my inspiration. From candles to plants to furniture and decor. It’s fun going on this journey with you. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
    God bless you all. xoxo

    Merry Christmas again, Jody

Hi I like it both ways but I was advised not to go white they show everything and STAIN!!!! I didn’t believe the designer so before I made the change I tested samples and she was right!!!! Mustard stained very easily and even with bartenders friend I couldn’t remove the stain. My daughter however loved the look got the same as your new one and has to constantly clean it and is freaking out every time something spills .Pretty isn’t always practical.

Hello, We are looking at adding an addition to our home. It would involve a sloped ceiling (10 foot) to a dining room which will be a flat roof at 8 feet. I came across your photos. Could you tell me you max ceiling height in the kitchen and in the dining area? Thanks! Trying to envision how this will look 🙂
