My Simple Hair Routine + Favorite Products

When I was in fourth grade I had the brilliant idea to chop my hair off. I wanted it to be about cheek length and I envisioned this cute, bouncy hair that was sure to be a hit with my super cool group of friends. So after begging my mom, she finally caved and let me cut my hair. And oh boy, it was SHORT. And not only was it short, it was exceptionally poofy. Turns out when you cut really thick hair that short, it actually expands and appears to be even poof-ier than before (this is science, people). Long story short, from that point on I was known as “mushroom girl” in 4th grade. It wasn’t my greatest year. And let me tell you, I hated my thick hair. It took me years to figure out how to manage this crazy mane of mine. I’ve done a lot of trial and error since that 4th grade haircut, but I’ve recently found a hair routine that I’ve been LOVING lately. My hair is healthier than ever before, so I wanted to share what I’ve been doing and a few of my favorite products.

My Simple Hair Routine + Products I’m Loving:

  1. Washing Routine: When it comes to washing my hair, I’ve tried to “train it” to only need washing every 3 to 4 days. I used to be a wash-every-day-kinda-gal because eww oily hair is gross, but I think that was actually making my hair more dry and brittle. And honestly, my hair is less oily now than it’s ever been! Ninety percent of the time I wash my hair at night and let it air dry while I sleep. I’m currently using the Search & Rescue shampoo and conditioner from Navy Hair Care. I love it because it’s loaded with good things like vitamins A, C & E, panthenol, and even rosemary oil. It’s also paraben free!
  2. Very Little Blow Drying: For years now I’ve loved the sleek, blown out look. That was my go-to style–I loved straight and smooth hair! But the constant heat was seriously frying my hair. I decided to ditch the blow drying and now I let my hair air dry over might while I sleep.
  3. Working With My Natural Hair: My natural hair is thick, wavy and even a bit frizzy. I worked against that for a long time, but now I’m trying to embrace it. Give me alllll the big hair! Along with letting it air dry, I’ve also been loving this styling and thickening cream. I work in a small amount to my wet hair and then let it dry over night. I wake up with soft, subtle waves! It also adds just the perfect amount of shine and volume. (You can also use this cream before blowing out your hair for extra volume.) Pro tip: if you have a similar hair type, do not comb your hair after it’s dry. This will only add to the frizz and you’ll comb out any natural curls!
  4. Beachy Hair Vibes: If I want to addd in a few more curls and amp up the beachy hair vibes, I use this super inexpensive waver. I loooove it!

PS: Navy Hair Care was kind enough to give me a coupon code for you guys. You can use SARAHJOY for 30% off any Navy products!!!

That’s it. I currently not using any dry shampoo or hairspray. Just easy breezy hair with these three products and occasionally my hair crimper. My hair is healthier than it’s ever been and this routine is also the easiest and fasted way I’ve ever done my hair. Let me know if you have any questions, I’d love to chat!

I’d love to see how you use the waver. I have it and can’t get it to do much on my hair.
