Life Update–We Moved!

If you follow along over on IG you already know the news, but we moved!! I know this probably comes as a huge surprise considering we weren’t even in the “big house” for two years, but to be completely honest, it just never felt like us. It was a dream house for sure, but it didn’t feel like the right fit. It felt too formal, too executive, too big. Even my kids mentioned several times that it didn’t feel “cozy”. And at 6300 square feet, it just felt like way more than we truly needed. And coming to that realization was hard. Here we had left the country life, with chickens and plenty of space for the kids to roam, to move back into town in this gorgeous house. And then it didn’t feel like the right fit.

I think one lesson I’ve learned in the last couple years is that nothing feels as good as Jesus. The big pretty house, the promotion at work, more money, the goal you’re chasing—nothing fills the soul up like a relationship with Jesus. Without Him, you’re always chasing that “thing” to bring you joy. As a full-time content creator on IG for the last 10 years, it’s been so easy to get wrapped up in all that worldly stuff—thinking you need things you really don’t…even as a consumer of IG that easily happens. But when we’re truly content with Jesus first + seeking Him wholeheartedly, everything else is just extras. That other stuff suddenly doesn’t matter as much. True joy comes from a relationship with Him. That’s living the best possible life.

So around April of this year Matt and I both agreed that downsizing and moving back to the country was our goal. We also wanted to get closer to the kids school. We kept our eye on the market and even put an offer on a house in June, but after a lot of negotiating it didn’t work out. Then in late July, we were driving around on a Saturday afternoon just drinking coffee and chatting about real estate. We drove through one of our favorite areas, right where we wanted to be, and we saw this cute white and black house with a wrap around porch. We pulled up right in front of the house and I said, “If I could have any house in this area it would be this one.” It wasn’t for sale, but Matt and I both sat there swooning at this adorable house.

Then three days later, on July 30th, that exact house came on the market.

We’re only two weeks in and still very much getting settled, but so far we are loving this adorable house. It’s got a huge unfinished basement, but the finished square footage is just about half of what we had before. It feels cozy, full of charm and the best part is we have five acres, which is such a blessing. It feels so much more like us. It’s also in a fabulous location–close to everything yet still very much feels like living in the country. We’ve already got a chicken coop ordered!

Stay tuned for more updates and as always thank you for stopping by the blog and spending part of your day here with me. xoxo

You are right without Jesus the stuff doesn’t matter. I am happy you and your family found what makes you happy and cozy. Sometimes you have to try and what fits and what doesn’t. As long as you have Jesus. That’s all you need. Looking forward to seeing how you make your new home cozy.
