So yesterday I was piddling in our garage while the kiddos played outside and I came across an old vintage crib spring. I’ve actually had it for a couple years now and I’ve decorated with it in a few different places in our home. But to be honest, I was kind of over it. I just wasn’t digging it anymore and it’s been sitting in our garage since December. But yesterday, as I stood there staring at this old crib spring, I got the idea to spray paint it black. Kinda crazy for a girl who paints everything white, I know, but lately I’ve been loving the contrast of black and white. You guys saw this combo when I painted that old window frame black for my grain sacks in this post. I decided to go for it, so I grabbed a can of spray paint and got to work for a quick little vintage crib spring makeover. The whole thing took maybe 15 minutes, not even enough time for a coffee break. But holy smokes you guys–it looks soooooo much better now. I hung it up in our bedroom and I couldn’t wait to show you.
Isn’t she purdy? Just for fun I snapped a quick photo before I started spray painting it and this is how it looked before:
Lots of rust (which I normally really like) and a ton of blotchy discoloration. I did love it for a long time, and like I said I used this in a few different places around the house. But this was definitely ready for a change. And I think the black spray paint was just the ticket.
I just adore the combo of the white planked wall and black crib spring. I wanted to keep the look really clean, so I layered it with this magnolia wreath and called it good. I feel like it has a definite Fixer Upper vibe and I love the simplicity of it. Easy and simple, just the way I like it.
Did you spot my new bedding?! I just got it this week and I’ve been drooling over it for a few days now. It is hands-down the prettiest bedding I’ve ever owned. And bonus points, it’s actually super affordable. I’ll definitely be sharing more about it in the future, but you can find it here if you’re interested.
It’s amazing what a little spray paint can do, right? My love for this crib spring had long faded away, but with just a little black spray paint it has a totally different vibe and I love it. Between that and my new purdy bedding, our room has a fresh new look. And I know I’m always saying this, but if there’s something you’re not crazy about in your home, change it. Maybe it’s a coffee table that you’re tired of looking at or your dining room chairs that could use a refresh. Sometimes you definitely need to just scrap it and start new, but don’t be scared by painting or trying to DIY it first. It’s worth a shot and there’s a good chance you’ll love the results.
Well friends, that’s a wrap for me today. I hope you don’t mind me mixing it up and swapping out my usual Friday Favorites for this post. I just couldn’t wait to share this little project with you guys! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend. Make sure to slow down and take time to enjoy it. I don’t know about you guys, but it’s been a busy few weeks around here so I plan to do very little other than rest my big ol’ baby belly and soak in as much of that glorious June sunshine as I can. I hope you do the same. Well, other than the big belly part because there ain’t no belly bigger than mine right now. I’m 36 weeks and counting–eek! I’ll see you back here on Monday!
You did the right thing! It takes your bedroom to another level of perfect – I am dying to see your post about the bedding ….. and the word “affordable” is the icing on the cake.
Thank you Marilyn, I can’t believe how much of a change it brought to this room. And I’ll definitely be sharing more about the bedding in future posts. I absolutely LOVE it!
I liked the rusted look too but you are right, sometimes we all need a re-fresh! it looks old but new all at the same time. Still has its character but feels fresh. I also love the contrast of the black. Job well done!
Thank you! I love the new look and I’m just happy to have it back in our home again!
Am loving the black crib spring and your new bedding, Sarah. You’re right, it really is very striking and looks so fresh. I’m not sure where (in Oz) to even start looking for a crib spring of my own but I’m going to do my best. They have so much potential. As usual you are such an inspiration. Many thanks x
Oh I hope you can find one Sharon! Do you have Craigslist in Australia?!
Looks awesome! I lOVE black accents with white walls…it just adds a little warmth and depth, I think. And your bedding is gorgeous!! I am definitely checking it out! Thumbs up! And I can’t believe how much energy you have this close to your due date!
Thank you Megan, you’re so sweet. I just keep plugin’ away, but my energy is definitely starting to fade. And yes, I love the crib spring so much more now. Spray paint for the win!!
love it! and I totally get the black and white thing…enjoy the weekend!
Thanks Michele, I’m loving the black and white lately!
Good Morning,
I can say i do love contrast colors with white, mine are shades of beige and mocha with white. But for some reason this post had me thinking in another direction. Your having your third blessing in a few weeks and eventually that little angel will be sleeping in a crib. And here you are not really liking the old rusty crib and you painted it and then hung it in your master bedroom. Of all the rooms in your house it is now in your bedroom. I just see the beauty in that a new baby is coming, its a crib spring and its placed in a bedroom. I find all of that so special. Blessing to all and enjoy the beautiful weekend with your family and friends.
Love,
Tammy
Oh my goodness Tammy, you’re so right! I hadn’t even thought about that, but it’s true. That vintage crib spring is like a little sign of what’s to come. And of all places I put it in my bedroom. What a coincidence! Thank you for pointing that out!
So fresh and clean looking! Love the new look. I could stay in that room all day!
Thanks Cindy! It’s definitely become my favorite place to hang out. And it’s practically my “office” too so it’s nice to have a few fresh look in there!
Love the wreath with the crib. So so pretty! Have you decorated your nursery yet?
In love with that bedding set! We’ve been looking at Duvets for awhile, but so much money goes into them. Are the sheets that really slippery material though? I prefer cotton because I feel the grip mattresses better, and for the price this comforter is going for, I don’t mind buying another pair of sheets, but was just curious.
I haven’t started the nursery yet because we still have to switch the rooms, but I’ll get there eventually! And to answer your question, the bedding isn’t slippery at all. It’s more of a cotton material. But it doesn’t come with sheets, so I can only speak to the comforter and pillow covers.
Beautiful, cozy and serene. A wonderful place to put up your feet and be grateful for all your blessings. You have been amazing during your pregnancy, but now it’s time to rest up. Maybe that’s why God gave you the inspiration for your lovely bedroom, to rest and enjoy. Have a blessed day. ????????
Thank you Angela, I really appreciate that. I plan on slowing down a bit in the next few weeks to get baby stuff organized and ready. And this bedroom is the perfect place to rest up!
That spring definitely just pops since you painted it and the wreath finishes it off so perfectly! I love it!!! (You are probably getting tired of hearing me say that, lol)
haha! Never, Sherri! I always love your comments. Thanks so much for being here. xoxo
Oh how beautiful the simplicity of the spring and wreath! Love this look Sarah-thanks for the inspiration to upgrade my bedroom! So fresh and inviting.
Thanks! I sure love the new look!
Did you do anything special to prep the crib frame before painting it?
And what brand spray paint did you use?
