It’s the last day of January (yay!) and I’m already dreaming of spring. Big time. I’m sure many of you are right there with me. I’m literally counting down the days to more sunshine and warmer weather. It’s still a ways off for us here in snowy Colorado, but I’m so excited for February because that means we’re getting closer. Little by little we are getting closer. High five to that my friends! I’ve been adding little pops of spring all over the house lately, trying to find the balance between late winter decor and my desire to put bright happy things like purdy flowers and greenery everywhere. I think I’ve found a pretty good balance of late winter and early spring in our living room, so that’s what I’m sharing with you today. I’ve also rearranged all the furniture and changed just about everything since my last full living room tour, so I figured it’s high time for a little update!
Have you been by Michael’s recently? You should go. Just take my word for it and go. They’ve put out all their spring decor already and it’s absolutely heavenly. I found many of the greenery in today’s post, like that adorable little potted flower, at Michael’s.
I actually made this hanging planter box. I’m soooooo happy with how it turned out and it’s perfect for spring. I’ll be sharing the tutorial for that soon!
Aren’t these faux flowers the perfect mix of winter and spring? I love the little buds of pink, but they’re really subtle and not “too” flowery. I think they’re great for this time of year.
This crocheted throw is recent thrifted find. Isn’t it pretty? I found it at my favorite local thrift shop for $15. I brought it home, threw it in the wash, and it’s been in this spot ever since. I LOVE it.
I added that vintage headboard piece over the top of our reading nook and I really like the change. Remember I had the “fresh eggs” sign there before? I just needed something different in the spot and this worked perfectly. It’s funny how the smallest change can be so refreshing and energizing. This living room feels brand new after rearranging the furniture and adding in a few early pops of color. I decided to leave a couple winter items out, like my oversized fluffy pillows and lots of cozy blankets, but somehow it all seems to work for a late winter/early spring living room.
I can’t wait to share the tutorial for that hanging planter box, it’s coming soon! Have you started to decorate with spring decor yet or is it too soon for you? Let me know. I’d be tickled pink to hear from you, so don’t be shy!

Thank you Patty! xoxo
I love the vintage headboard in that space , and thanks for the tip on Michaels…..I’m on my way !
Yes, go there now before it’s all sold out. I caught a great sale, hope you do too Marilyn!
Everything is so dreamy! I wanted to ask about your shelf/mantle over your fireplace. Can you tell me where you got that and what size it is? I do not have a fireplace but I still want to hang a shelf similar over my TV stand to kind of give the same effect. What do you think?
Thank you!
I think that’s a great idea Kim–a large floating shelf would work really well too. We did a similar set of shelves in our master bathroom above the bathtub, you can see it here: https://sarahjoyblog.com/farmhouse-master-bathroom-reveal/. I don’t have a tutorial for them, but I’m sure you can find one on Pinterest. This mantel on our fireplace was actually in place when we purchased the home, so I don’t know much about it!
Your living room is beautiful! I went to micheal’s last week and picked up some spring decor š
Oh awesome Melanie, I’m glad you found some goodies before they got picked over!
Oh I meant to mention the planter box! That is amazing! I can’t wait to see your tutorial on that!! I need a friend like you to help me!
Aw thanks, I’ll be sharing it soon!!
You are so right. Mixing a space up is a great simple refresh. It all looks awesome!
Thanks Mary, I love a little refresh!
The room looks so great, Sarah! I still have everything decorated for winter, but now you’re giving me the itch to switch some things to early spring. Also, I can’t believe you found that crochet blanket at your thrift store – what a find!
Thanks Karly, I couldn’t hold out any longer. I had to add in a few touches of spring. I’ll wait another month or so before I go all in!
Everything looks amazing, as usual, so cozy!! I don’t remember the shelves to the right of the fireplace, are they new? I love them!
Thanks Heather, I actually made that! It’s a little hanging planter box. I’ll be sharing the tutorial soon!
New reader. Thanks for sharing. Little vintage nest is one of my guilty pleasures. Take care…
Yay Donna, so happy to have you!!
I’m loving the updates to your cute living room! That vintage headboard is to die for!!! I also love the plant shelf you made, can’t wait to see the tutorial on that one š
Thanks Chelsea, I can’t wait to share that tutorial!
I love the changes, though I really loved your former decor, too! The headboard above the reading nook is ‘genius’, and the window pane is pretty, too… But, I LOVE your “Milk and Cream” sign! One of my fave DIY projects EVER! So, I missed seeing that… I think it dressed up your nook just perfectly. š Hope you bring it back again! I’m hoping to make one for my home soon!
I think you’re right about that Milk & Cream sign Julie…My husband said the same thing. I’ll probably be putting it back in the nook soon!
Where did you get your magnolia wreath? I have one I got from Kirklands but it doesn’t have the beautiful blooms on it.
Hi Whitney! I found that wreath at Pier 1 a few months ago. I just checked their site and it looks like it’s unavailable now. Boo!
Everything looks so fresh and welcoming. Just right for Spring. I love the crocheted throw. I think that was an amazing find. Looks great.
I subscribed to your e-mail but have not received my free printable. Thank you

Hi there! I’m new to your blog so I do apologize if you have posted this information before…. I am IN LOVE with your sofa. I saw it and said “that’s the one!” Would you mind sharing information on that beauty? I need it in my life š
Hi Jessie, we got that couch from Lazy Boy Furniture. It’s the Brennan sofa: https://www.la-z-boy.com/p/sofas/brennan-premier-sofa/_/R-610657

I am obsessed with your site and blog. I love your style and have started making changes of my own! I can’t wait to get a post..its my guilty pleasure!
Hahah, aw thank you Brenda! You just brought a huge smile to my face. I’m so glad to hear you enjoy my blog, that makes me soooooooo happy! I actually bought those buckets at Michael’s, they just came out with all the new Spring decor so I bet you could still snag a few!
Hi, Iāve never been on a blog before, but I love yours. Can you please tell me what paint color the living room walls are?
Iāve been leaning towards rich cream , but idk if my brownish/olive sofa would like right if I did cream.
I have a dark straw paint now , but I glared itās too dark for a small living room.
Thank you
Oops I just found my answerš thank you for all your great posts
Looks great what color did you pain the walls?
Thank you Natalie, the color is Autumn Blonde by Sherwin Williams.
Love this!! I’m TERRIBLE at decor, desperate for ideas. Love the farmhouse look like this. Can I ask what wall color this is? I’ve tried 3 different colors in my living room and can’t get it right!
Thank you Jo! The wall color is Autumn Blonde by Sherwin Williams. It’s the perfectly creamy/light butter color.
Your home is the definition of “charm.” I love it! My main color in my home is cream, too. I like the pale palette and soft, cozy pillows you chose. The look you have would be great to emulate or be inspired by for an apartment or small home, someone on a budget, or with pets or children involved! It is a beautifully done look that would “work in real life.”
Thanks so much Tracie, that’s exactly the look I’m going for! š
I LOVE the couch! Could you please tell me the make and model and where it is from?? THANK YOU!
Okay, I am in love with your entire room. I am redoing our living room and finding it very hard to find just the perfect pair of chairs. Did your chairs also come from lazy boy? Thanks for sharing!
Where did you get the rug?!?
Hi Ashely! That’s actually from Target and unfortunately it’s no longer available. But this one is very similar and it’s even a little more affordable: https://rstyle.me/n/cnqe7xb6hgf

HI Maggie! We just got the standard option with the couch. Nothing fancy! But it’s held up really well and we’ve had it over 2 years now. I love it! Thanks so much for dropping by and for subscribing! xo
What is the “standard” option material for the couch? Please and thank you!
