New Coop, Baby Chicks + Chit Chat

I can’t believe the month of October is almost over! It’s been a busy month over here and we’re continuing to get more and more settled in our new home. It’s honestly been an easy transition and this move has just simplified so many things for us. Plus we love living in a small town again. Matt and I grew up in the tiniest little town and it feels good to get back to our roots in that way. I didn’t realize how much I missed a slower pace. Anyway I thought it would be fun to share a few highlights from the month. We’ve had a few fun things happen lately!

–Last weekend we hatched a bunch of baby chicks! We actually used an incubator, which was such a cool process to watch. The kids absolutely loved it. Last time we had chickens we got them from the local feed store, so watching them hatch was really awesome. We had 15 hatch!

–Our chicken coop got delivered earlier this month. I pretty much copied the exact same coop we had a few years ago when we lived in the country, except this one is just a tad big smaller. If you’re in Colorado check out The Shed Yard. They are amazing!

–It’s been almost two months since we moved in and most boxes have been unpacked at this point. I can’t say all of them just yet because there are still several sitting in the basement that I haven’t even touched. But we’re getting there and it’s been nice to go a little slower this time around. The finished square footage of this home is almost half of our old house, so I’m trying to be really intentional to simply things as much as possible.

–I finished reading the entire Bible a couple days ago!! This was a huge goal I set on January 1st and I really can’t believe I actually stuck with it and DID IT. I used the Bible Recap reading plan through the Bible app and it was a chronological reading plan. I loved it and learned SO much. If I can influence you on anything, I hope it’s this: read your Bible and read it as often as you can. I really can’t begin to express how much I love my Bible–just having it near me brings me comfort. And I can honestly say that reading my Bible every day has truly changed my life.

–Earlier this month we expanded the fence in our backyard to include a larger area of our land, which makes the yard feel so much bigger. We have five acres here, so it was nice to push that fence out a bit and make things feel more roomy.

–My girls just competed in their first ever horse riding competition. They started lessons in June and they’ve really done so well. They both placed 2nd in their division–I was so proud of them. Horse riding is no joke, you have to be so confident and sure of yourself to control that horse. Also my 14 year old son is now 5’10 and basically looks like a full grown man at this point!

–In not so happy news, my Facebook page for Sarah Joy Blog got hacked about a week ago. I fell for a very elaborate, sophisticated scam on a Zoom call. I honestly don’t know if I’ll be able to get the page back at this point-whoever has it has already gone in and deleted the last five years of content. Such a crazy ordeal.

Thanks so much for stoping by the blog, I hope October was full of lots of good moments for you! xo
