Last spring when we were on the search for our new home, two things were at the top of our list: coziness and character. Coming from a cookie-cutter style house, I wanted more than anything to find something that not only had lots of charm, but a place that was just oozing with warmth and love. You know how some homes just feel so welcoming and homey when you walk in the door? That’s what I wanted. And I’m so grateful that after a stressful and crazy house search, which you can read all about here, God led us to this home. I can still remember the exact moment I walked into the front doors for the first time. It was raining. I was exhausted from moving out of our old house and into a tiny apartment that same day, and I had basically lost all hope that we’d ever find the right home for us. But when I walked through that front door, I knew right away that this was home. Literally, five seconds in the door and I just knew it. It was a very surreal moment and one that I’ll never forget. I was instantly in love with this little 1980s gem–it had everything I wanted and more. But the thing I loved the most was it felt small and cozy in the most perfect way. It was where we were meant to be.
I recently came across a sign that perfectly sums up how I feel about our home: the Love Grows Best sign from Between You and Me Signs on Etsy. You guys, I am obsessed with this sign. I just got it last week and you know I had it up on the wall within minutes. I’m so excited to share this beauty with you today, plus I have AWESOME news I’ll share at the end of this post for those of you that want to get a sign like this for your own home.
This sign describes exactly how I feel about our little nest. This place, with it’s smaller rooms, lower ceilings, and quirky design, is the perfect place to foster love, happiness, and a life well lived. Obviously those same things can happen in a large fancy house too, but I’ll take an old, cozy home over a mansion any day.
“Where you eat and sleep so close together; you can’t help but communicate.” This is one of my favorite lines in this saying. And it’s funny because when we were on our house search I specifically wanted all of the bedrooms in our future home to be really close together. It was my thing, I just wanted my babies sleeping close to us. And it was actually harder to find than I thought it would be. A lot of the homes we looked at had the bedrooms scattered all over, but this one had two little rooms right across from the master bedroom. It was perfect. And just another reason I knew this place was meant for us.
For me, this sign is a symbol of gratitude and appreciation for this place we call home. And it reminds me of so many things God did all along our journey to ensure we’d end up here. This is my happy place and building a life here with my favorite people just feels like a dream come true. I absolutely love this sign and I’m soooooo thankful that I get to see it and be reminded of these things everyday.
You can find the this exact sign here, mine is the humongous 4 feet x 2 feet. Between You and Me Signs also carries a lot of other really beautiful signs, so definitely check them out!
Oh, I love this sign, how perfect.
What a sweet post -I feel the same way about our house -Its smaller than our last house but larger than our first house so like Goldilocks we like to say “it’s just right” -the most common comments we get from our house guest is ” it’s just so peaceful and cozy” ——I’ll take that any day over spacious and cold.
I couldn’t agree more Marilyn. Sounds like you have a cozy home!
Finally I found something to read regarding decorating I can relate to! Small homes are the best!
As I was reading your story, Sarah, I felt as though I could have wrote many of your words.
We were house searching three years ago and had yet to find the “one.” The moment I walked into my 1980s home, I looked at my realtor, we smiled at each other, and we both said at the same time “This is THE one!” I knew and even she knew this was home.
I too have the exact same sign from Tara in my home. I look at it every single day and I’m reminded of how much I love our 1980s home.
Thank you for sharing your heart and home with us!
Shannon
That’s so cool you have a similar story Shannon! It’s such an amazing feeling to know when you’ve found the one. And high five to 1980s homes!
Such a beautiful post. Love it when you share your heart sweet friend.????????????
Thanks my friend, so glad you stopped by!
I loved reading this post. Not only am I a designer but I’m also a realtor, so I know the “aha” moment you speak of! Your home is absolutely perfect and every little detail oozes charm. Thank you for sharing your “little nest” story with us!
These are lyrics from a Doug Stone song. Look it up. It’s called “Little Houses”. The chorus is literally this sign.
Where can I buy this print please?
