This week I took a risk on a project I’ve been thinking about for a while–I painted a sun over my daughter’s bed! I knew it was going to either be really cool, or really bad, but it actually turned out so much better than I thought it would. She loves it, I love it, and I even got to prove my husband wrong because he totally doubted this would turn out-ha! So here’s what I started with:
This empty space above her bed was definitely in need of something. I thought about buying artwork, but I randomly got this idea to try and paint a sunrise directly over her headboard. I started by making sure the bed was exactly in the middle of the wall. Then I placed a nail in the middle of the headboard, tied a string to it and a pencil on the other side. I took the pencil out to the edge of the headboard and drew an arch. EASY PEASY. That was the sun.
Once I painted the sun, I made a little stencil out of cardboard for the sun beams. I measured off each one to make sure they were spaced out evenly. I did 5 inches apart and two inches from the sun. Worked pretty well! Then I filled them in with paint.
Here’s the finished look:
This really turned out so much better than I thought it would and SO easy. Plus inexpensive too.Colors used are pink lemonade by magnolia home for the sun and cabbage rose for the sunbeams.
What do you think?!
