Dining Room Gallery Wall

Remember a few weeks back I talked about wanting to do a gallery wall in our dining room? Well, I finally got it done my friends. And I’m seriously giddy about how this project turned out. If you’ve seen our dining room before you know I have an old door frame hanging horizontally on the wall. It’s been a tricky little spot to fill over the past year, but I think this gallery wall is exactly what it needed. I’m so excited to share how I put this together using products from the Heidi Swapp gallery wall collection, which is currently available at Michaels. I was able to customize every piece, so it was really fun to design this gallery wall to fit the farmhouse vibe of our home. Come on in and take a look!

Every time I walk into the dining room I squeal in excitement and feel a bit like a kid on Christmas morning. I am seriously so in love with this wall. I think it all came together beautifully and it’s exactly what this room needed. I was worried about getting all the pieces to fit inside the door frame, but I actually think it made the perfect border. And the awesome thing about this is that all of the pieces from Heidi Swapp are customizable. Everything comes in easy DIY kits, so I had a ton of fun putting this gallery wall together. Here’s how I made each piece:

Book page covered arrow:

I wanted the theme of the entire gallery wall to be about old book pages, so this wooden arrow was the perfect canvas to highlight one of the pages. I simply used a glue stick to adhere it to the arrow and it worked perfectly.

Zinc Marquee:

This marquee was really fun to create. The ampersand comes in white so you can choose how you want to customize it. I went with the zinc distress paint kit, which has two different steps. First I covered it all in the black paint, then brushed on the metallic finish. Easy and quick! I wanted it to have a galvanized, farmhouse vibe and the zinc paint kit did the job really well.

NEST Pallet Sign:

I love this little piece so much. I knew right away when I saw the wood pallet that I wanted to make it into a “nest” sign. These large foam letter stamps from Heidi Swapp are a cinch to use–just spell out your word, paint the letters, and stamp it on the pallet. I went with Annie Sloan Paris Gray and Old Horn White from Magnolia for this combination. Such a simple piece, but I adore it.

Framed “4”

Creating Heidi Swapp Gallery Wall Framed Number 4

This was a fun one. I started off by painting this white frame in the same Paris Gray I used for the nest sign. The paper sheet here that looks like old wood is from the Heidi Swapp paper pad–it made the perfect back drop for this display. I used one of her smaller foam numbers to make the 4 on the fabric tag and then just used a small nail to tack it in place on the “wood” background. I love how it adds a bit of dimension and texture to the wall.

Book Page Stenciled Art

I love Heidi’s stencils. Not only does this stencil sheet have a ton of fun options to choose from, but they’re the perfect size for the book page I wanted to use. I chose my four favorite words and used a foam brush and some black paint to put them on the book page. Then I simply glued it on this metal plaque and ta-da! Perfect book page art.

Framed Family Photo

This gorgeous frame was perfect piece for the center of the gallery wall. Instead of painting the frame, I wanted to add a book page to the inner border. Super easy to do–I just used that handy glue stick again–and it blends perfectly with everything else. Plus I think every good gallery wall needs a sweet family photo and this large frame is perfect for it.

{PS: we recently had family photos done & I’m obsessed. They were done by Candice Baker Photography & I can’t wait to share a few of them with you!}

Fresh Milk Sign on Shelf

How cute is this little white shelf? I love the combination of the shelf and the clipboard. I think it gives the wall more dimension and character. And that fresh milk sign is actually a free printable I found online a few months ago.

So that’s how I customized all of the different pieces in the gallery wall. I love that I was able to incorporate things I love, like the old book pages, and make it all blend with the overall style of our home.

If you’re curious about that old wooden toolbox on our dining room table you can read the story about it here. And that supermarket sign was a quick DIY project a few months back, the tutorial is here.

I really could not be happier with this gallery wall. This is my first time doing one and now I’m kicking myself for not doing this sooner! (And I’m already dreaming about doing one up the staircase) Plus it was truly a lot of fun to put together using all the customizable pieces from Heidi Swapp–I had a pot of coffee going, music playing, and my entire dining room table covered in old book pages, paint, and all the DIY kits. Even my little chickadees enjoyed helping put it all together. It was awesome.
