Do you ever read the Bible and find yourself in awe and amazement of who God is? I’ve been reading through Isaiah for the last month or so–I read through it once and now I’m re-reading it slowly to try to soak it in and really understand what I’m reading. And holy moly, the entire book of Isaiah is an absolute treasure trove of beautiful verses. It is overflowing with powerful words straight from God. It might just be my favorite book in the Bible.
As I’ve been reading the chapters in Isaiah, I keep being reminded that our God is a BIG God–even bigger than our human brains can comprehend. I have found the most beautiful verses that just take my breath away and show that God is the ultimate creator–the one who places the stars in the sky and who told the oceans where to start and stop. Compared to the idols we create in our lives, mere things can do nothing to help us, God’s authority is unmatched. And I’m in awe of who He is and all He has done.
I wanted to share a few of my favorite verses in Isaiah with you today simply as a reminder that God is amazing. I hope these empower you and give you comfort.
Who else held the oceans in His hand? Who has measured off the heavens with His fingers? Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed out the mountains and the hills?
Isaiah 40:12
No matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can remove it. I can make you as clean as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are stained as red as crimson, I can make you as white as wool.
Isaiah 1:18
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:9
To whom, then, can we compare God? What image might we find to resemble Him? Can He be compared to an idol formed in a mold, overlaid with gold, and decorated with silver chains? Or is a poor person’s wooden idol better? Can God be compared to an idol that most be placed on a stand so it won’t fall down?
Isaiah 40:20
“To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?” Asks the Holy One. Look up to the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out one after another, calling each by its name. And He counts them to see that none are lost or have strayed away.
Isaiah 40:25-26
No longer will you need the sun or the moon to give you light, for the Lord your God will be your everlasting light, and He will be your glory.
Isaiah 60:19
But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31
The Lord will be our Mighty One. He will be like a wide river of protection that no enemy can cross. Isaiah 33:21
From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can oppose what I do. No one can reverse my actions. Isaiah 43:13
When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.
Isaiah 43:2
“I will be your God throughout your lifetime–until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.”
Isaiah 46:4
