Cozy Farmhouse Reading Nook

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say my absolute favorite thing about our home is the cozy farmhouse reading nook we built in our living room. It actually wasn’t long after we moved in last summer that we got to work on this little nook. Well, technically all of the credit goes to my talented father-in-law because he did the majority of the work on this one, but at least I came up with the idea! Before it was just an an empty alcove, aka random hole/closet in the wall that had no real purpose. But with a little creativity we were able to turn this wasted space into the coolest feature in our entire home– well this and the old-school intercom system, it’s a close call. I just love it and every time I walk by this spot I feel a bit giddy. I’ve always dreamed of having a real-life reading nook, so it makes perfect sense that this is my favorite. I recently made a milk & cream sign for this spot, so I thought it would be fun to share it with you today!

I actually put up the planked wall in the back not long after we had the bench finished. It was super quick and went up in just a couple hours. I love how bright it makes this spot, it’s like a little beacon of happiness. Cozy Farmhouse Reading Nook

One of the coolest things about this reading nook is that the bench opens up on top for storage. Inside that baby is a ton of toys, blankets, books, etc, etc. It’s the perfect spot to stow stuff away and keep the living room nice and tidy. Again, all praise to my talented father-in-law for bringing this vision to life! Cozy Farmhouse Reading Nook Cozy Farmhouse Reading Nook

I’m so smitten with this cute milk & cream sign. I love how it turned out and it was really simple to do. Let me know if you want to see a tutorial, I’d be happy to share!

I see this cozy spot getting lots and lots of use this winter. The kiddos love curling up in there and so do I. And it actually has a great view of the TV, which comes in handy during football games and Survivor nights. Any Survivor fans here?! I’m addicted, have been since the first episode years and years ago. I don’t watch much TV, but that show gets me every every season. Oh and Fixer Upper, obviously. Anyway, enough about my shows, I’d love to hear what you think of our little nook and the milk & cream sign! And if you’re interested in reading more about how this came to life, check out this post where I shared all the details. Thanks soooooo much for visiting my blog today, it really means the world to me.

  7. I have a weird alcove like this in my living room too. It’s not quite as wide as yours. It used to be a fire place. One day we plan on turning it back into a fireplace but right now there’s a shelving unit in there for some extra storage… Who knows maybe we can temporarily convert it to a fun little nook like yours for the time being? I just LOVE this idea. 🙂

  • You know it’s a good day when you randomly find the biggest fiddle leaf tree ever & then successfully manage to fit it inside your car without breaking any of the leaves 🙌🏻🙅‍♀️ Really though, how awesome is this tree?! I couldn’t pass it by today. And I know you’re probably a bit worried about my lack of plant lady skills, but I’m 100% committed to keeping this baby alive. I CAN DO IT, PEOPLE. Someone just remind me to water it, ok?! Thanks. 👩‍🌾❤️
  • The playset is finished 🙌🏻🙌🏻 Well technically there’s still a few things to add, like the swings + another small room, but the kids are on cloud nine. I’m so excited for the memories we’ll make out here. Worth every minute ✨✨✨
  • Would it be too much to ask for my sink to always look like this? 🤷‍♀️I mean, I’d be a-ok with doing dishes in the bathtub in order to have this pretty view every day. My husband might have a different opinion, but I’m good with it 🤣🤣 I’m also smitten with that little wooden pedestal I picked up on my antiquing trip yesterday 🙌🏻🙌🏻 PS: Did you see the news about my design e-book this week?! I shared it on the blog a few days ago & it’s my five best tips for creating a cozy home you love. The link is in my profile if you want to snag it ❤️❤️
  • Went on a fun antiquing trip with my mama today & I fell in love with this happy little booth. Isn’t it so dang cute?! Give me alllll the flowers 💐🙌🏻 We even got cupcakes & I brought home a few good finds too (shared to my stories). It was such a fun day & just what my soul needed after a long week. My summer bod probably didn’t need those cupcakes but I have no regrets 🙅‍♀️ Happy weekend buddies! 😘
  • Had a pretty cool moment yesterday when I got to show my 4 year old a photo of me in the new edition of @americanfarmhousestyle magazine. And best of all it’s a photo SHE took a few months ago. That means she’s officially a published photographer now 🤣🤣Seriously though, what a fun experience to see photos of our home in a real life MAGAZINE. I chatted a little about it in stories last night, but I just want to encourage any of you that are working hard & chasing dreams—KEEP GOING. It takes a lot of courage to go after your dreams, so even if you feel alone, or unequipped to do what you want to do, keep moving forward. I believe in YOU! ❤️❤️ Thank you @americanfarmhousestyle for the opportunity to share my love of home. xoxo
  • Summer 2019 will forever be remembered as that time we put together a playset with eleventy billion pieces 😳😬Seriously though, this thing is a beast. Two days in & it doesn’t even look like a playset yet. But we’re getting there. And by we, I really mean him. Because clearly I’m just the supervisor on duty 🤣🤣 Anyone put one of these things together & live to tell about it?! #parentsoftheyear
