How to Get Organized with Vintage Decor

Happy 2017 you fabulous people! I hope the first 30ish hours of the year have been wonderful for you so far! I know I’ve said it already, but I seriously love the month of January. The idea of a fresh start and setting goals is so energizing for me. Plus I love the return of routines and normal life after the holiday craziness. I told you all in my last post that getting more organized is one of my many goals for the new year, so today I’m talking all about how to get organized with vintage decor. This past weekend I was busy little bee organizing the house and doing a bit of decluttering, and I decided to use as much of my vintage goodies as I could to solve some of our “organization troubles”. I have lots of simple and practical ideas to share today, so let’s get to it!

Vintage Drawer for Mail

I don’t know about you guys, but stacks of bills and mail sitting on the kitchen counter really stresses me out. I used to have a large desk organizer with lots of little compartments and drawers in this spot, but it was just too big and bulky. Plus it attracted lots of other “stuff”, so the whole area was always cluttered. I love using this small vintage drawer instead–it’s just the right size and only has room for what we need: mail, pens, and a notebook.

Vintage Jar for Bars of Soap

This is probably my favorite way to use an old jar. I shared this in our master bathroom renovation post and we’ve seriously used it ever since. Super practical and it definitely adds a bit of pizzaz the room.

Vintage Milk Crate for an Organized Coffee Table

I love this old milk crate. If you have little people in your house like I do, this works perfectly to organize goodies on your coffee table or anywhere really. It keeps little hands from grabbing whatever it is you want to display, plus it can actually hold a ton of stuff.

I love collecting vintage doilies and table runners, but they usually end up in a drawer somewhere. When I was decluttering this weekend I found my collection and decided to bring them out of hiding. Storing them in this old crock works perfectly–it’s pretty and functional!

This works really well if you have a small bathroom, like we do, and don’t have much extra space for storage. We can’t quite fit a cabinet in this spot, so this basket for extra towels is just what we needed. I wish I had thought of this a long time ago!

Vintage Enamel Tray for Kitchen Organization

I’ve been looking for a way to display a few of my favorite cookbooks in the kitchen, so when I found this enamel tray just sitting in our basement storage I knew exactly what to do with it. It’s just the right size for the kitchen countertop!

If you’re on a mission to get your home a bit more organized for the new year, I say think outside the box and get creative with it. Vintage decor doesn’t have to be just used for decoration–it can serve a practical and functional purpose as well. And if you love vintage decor like I do, there’s a good chance you have a few similar items sitting around your home that would work really well for organizing every day items.

Well friends, that’s all I’ve got for you today. I hope you enjoyed the post and it gave you a few ideas. As always, thanks so much for dropping by! I absolutely love having you here! xoxo

Love the organization ideas!!! I joined your e-mail list not too long ago and you have inspired me to change up a few things around my house. Over the Christmas break I redecorated my bedroom and changed some décor in the master bath. Also, I am working on changing a few things in the living room. I’ll send you pictures when I get finished. Thanks for the inspiration, I love looking at your blog everyday!!! Happy New Year!!

Great Ideas! I especially love the vintage enamel container on the kitchen counter. I found one of those a while back in mint green with the lid, and I keep it on my dryer in the laundry room since it always seems to accumulate random items like small tools, sandpaper, screws, etc. from projects. Now they can go in the pretty container and be out of sight. Of course, I need to go through the container from time to time and put things where they belong, but I find that if some space ends up being a “drop zone” for ts best not to fight it and just find a pretty way to organize or hide it????

  • Went out for burgers + ice cream to celebrate surviving the week 🙌🏻🍦It’s been a long one, but hallelujah we made it. Happy weekend buddies!! 😘 http://liketk.it/2Edhz #liketkit @liketoknow.it
  • Literally can’t stop smiling today because I’m SO excited to finally spill the beans about my candle with @antiquecandleco_ 😍😍 After months of working to find the perfect scent, we are thrilled to share that WARM CARAMEL CRUMBLE by Sarah Joy is coming this fall! 🍂🙌🏻 This candle is all about warm, gooey caramel, cinnamon-spiced maple, rich vanilla & baked green apples. It’s basically like heaven in a jar & I CANNOT wait for you to have this bake-y goodness in your home this fall! 🥧👏🏻
  • I finally got the botanical prints + old door project finished 🌿🙌🏻 What do you guys think?! It was kinda tricky figuring out where to hang these prints, but so many of you voted for this spot in stories & I think it’s perfect 👏🏻👏🏻 The floral prints are from @walmart & I LOVE them. I have an obsession with botanical artwork & these are my new favorite. This is all on the blog today & I also linked up a bunch of other botanical prints from Walmart here: http://liketk.it/2Ea9s #liketkit @liketoknow.it #ad #LTKhome
  • Spent the day in jammies, snuggling my sick kiddos + watching all of their favorite movies 😍 I hate seeing them sick, especially since we’re only a few days into the new school year, but I sure do love these simple days when they need me the most. Nothing else matters more than this right here ❤️👏🏻 http://liketk.it/2E8FG #liketkit @liketoknow.it
  • Did a little switcheroo in my vanity area & added in a new rug 🙌🏻😍 I actually took it from the back deck, so it’s technically not new, but it sure adds a lot of pizazz to this spot, right?! Much more cozy now 👏🏻👏🏻 Do you move things around in your home from one room to another? I do it all the time & it’s an easy way to freshen things up without spending any money! http://liketk.it/2E70b #liketkit @liketoknow.it #LTKhome
  • My little kitchen island is one of my favorite things in our home + I always get so many questions about it. It was actually made from reclaimed barn wood & we’ve had it over 10 years now 😍😍 I bought it when we moved into our first home & it’s been with us ever since. I kinda have an emotional connection to it now—it’s been through so much with us. Do you have furniture like that?? I’ll probably still have this island in my kitchen when I’m an old granny! 👵🏻❤️
