Vintage Spring Mantel

Happy first day of Spring! In honor of this glorious day I am sharing my vintage Spring mantel. I don’t know about all of you, but I am soooo ready for Spring. Despite living in Colorado, I’m not a fan of winter or snow. I usually enjoy it for about a month and then I’m over it and done. Obviously this isn’t a good thing when it snows here from October to May, but I always trudge through the cold weather just counting down the days to summer. Thankfully the end is near and I am getting so excited for warmer weather, the smell of freshly cut grass, and BBQs with friends in the backyard. Ok, now that we’re all dreaming of sunshine, let’s get to this springy mantel!

Vintage Farmhouse Spring Mantel

A few days ago I was looking at my old mantel set up and decided it was time for something new and fresh. So I took everything off the mantel, did a little “shopping” around the house, and this is what I came up with–a vintage Spring mantel. It drives my husband crazy, but switching things up like this is one of my favorite things to do. I’m learning about myself that the process of creating is very therapeutic for me. Painting old furniture, putting up shiplap, or even something as simple redecorating my mantel, it’s all very calming for me. And somehow I always come away from it in better spirits than when I started.

For this look I obviously had Spring on the brain, so I was reaching for bright and fresh pieces. I couldn’t help but put this chubby little oil can in the center with a few flowers happily poking out. I love this little guy–he adds the perfect rustic touch.

That old white washboard was on my last mantel set up, but I decided to leave it because it just fits here so nicely and adds the bit of height I needed. If you can, find yourself a few vintage washboards and incorporate them into your decor. I promise, you will love them.

The two painted spindles here were actually one large spindle that I chalk painted and cut in half. Have I told you before how much I love spindles? Until recently I had never used them to decorate our home–what a fool I was! Now I can’t get enough of them and I’ll definitely be searching for more spindles this summer at yard sales.

You might be surprised to know that pallet behind the spindle is actually the bottom of an old wooden onion crate. I took the onion crate apart and now I love using this piece around the house in various ways. I wish I could get my hands on a few more crates–they are so versatile! I love how this adds the perfect amount of texture to the mantel.

That’s all friends–that is my vintage Spring mantel. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Spring!

  • Kicking off the holiday weekend with a little online bargain shopping. Just as soon as we finish watching Baby Shark for the 1925th time 🤣🙌🏻 And speaking of bargains, I shared a huge blog post today with my picks from the Memorial Day sale happening at @wayfair right now. I found some seriously awesome deals, so I hope it’s a good resource if you’re shopping for decor or furniture this weekend. I also shared some of the best sales in stories too, including this area rug in our living room ❤️ #ad #liketkit #wayfairathome
  • You know it’s been a long day when you’re in cozies by 5PM 👏🏻👏🏻 I was in a total funk today, but I’m finally feeling better tonight & hopeful we get to see the sun tomorrow. And if not, mama might go crazy. Just warning y’all now 🤪 PS: I’m jumping in stories here in a bit to chat about a few of my nighttime skincare favorites! ❤️ #liketkit
  • So glad I saved these lilacs before we got 8172 inches of snow 🙌🏻😍 (JK. That’s a small exaggeration.) Just wish I had a way to make them last longer. Anyone have any tips or tricks to keep them alive more than 2 days?? Teach me your ways! 🙋‍♀️ #liketkit
  • It snowed today in Colorado 😑😑 SNOW. ON MAY 20th. And even though I’m allergic to cold weather (yes, it’s a real thing 😉) I decided to just embrace it today with open arms. I mean, what’s the point of stressing over things ya can’t change, right?! Sometimes you just gotta accept what it is & make the most of it. It could always be worse. Besides, dancing in the snow is pretty fun 👏🏻👏🏻 #liketkit
  • Basic as usual in my favorite jeans. I wear these pretty much every single day & I don’t even care how much my husband makes fun of me for it. What does he know anyway?! #sillyhusband 🤣🙌🏻 I shared some of my @ssekodesigns faves in stories today, including this gorgeous leather bag. And if you’re wondering, I can confirm it’s big enough for all the things AND plenty of snacks. Just FYI. 😉 #liketkit
  • How many lilacs is too many?! 🤔😆 I might have gone a teensy bit overboard this morning & I basically brought an entire lilac bush into my kitchen. Oops! But it smells like heaven in here, so no regrets 🙌🏻🙌🏻
