Updated Chicken Coop!

Life on our little homestead has been busy lately. We were finally able to start working on some big landscaping projects last week (there’s soooo much to do!) and my husband just finished up our chicken coop scratch pen. It took way longer than we expected thanks to all our lovely spring snow storms and excessive amounts of mud, but it’s officially done and I’m excited to share it with you today. Our sweet little chickens are finally able to get outside!

We still need to plant some grass around this area, but I love how this all came together. And look at those girls outside for the first time! It was so fun to watch them–most of them were super timid as the came outside, but a few of them were ready to explore. The kids and I love watching them scratch around.

My father in law was kind enough build us this door for the scratch pen. I love how it turned out! And of course I couldn’t resist hanging a wreath on it.

It feels so good to finally have the chicken coop done. I love looking out my kitchen window to see the hens out there scratching around. It’s so much fun for the kids too. We can’t wait for them to start laying eggs soon!

Let me know if you have any questions about our chicken coop! We had this built by The Shed Yard, so if you’re in Colorado (or the surrounding states) be sure to check them out. They even came out with a smaller version of our coop you can see HERE.

Hi, I'm Sarah. Welcome to my happy place! I'm mama to three, wife to my high school sweetheart + Colorado native. Let's decorate. Or maybe go on a Target run?!

That is beautiful! And they look so happy! One problem we had was with both owls and hawks swooping in from the top but maybe since you have no trees in general area maybe you wouldn’t have that problem. Did you post pics of inside yet?

    Hello Sarah
I just opened this and wow! Look at that beautiful chicken coup! It doesn’t surprise me that it would look awesome and the chickens look so happy in their home. I love how your girls were helping to paint the fence around it…love it

Soooo cute! Cozy! We are in CA rural area north LA County…we had to pour concrete to keep digging critters out of ours. A roof too due to ravens and squirrels, coyotes, bobcats, and who knows what else. It’s a sweet coop, and they are entertaining. One neighbor we have has almost 30 chickens. She has 8 kids and goes thru 2 dozen eggs a day when they eat big breakfast. 😬 the eggs have such a variety of color…so fun for the kiddos. Check egg aprons…easy collecting. Have fun!

Chicken coop and pen are beautiful.
Please do your chickens a favor and
cover the top with chicken wire.
I used to have chicken, and I lost too many by hawks swooping down and killing them.

Beautiful! You will need to put some chicken wire over the top too to keep the chicken hawks from killing your birds.
