Well hellllllo there and happy Tuesday to you! I’m up and going early today, trying to get some work done before everyone wakes up. I have to admit, I’m really starting to love my early morning routine. It’s becoming my favorite part of the day! It’s just me, my coffee, and a quiet house. Pure bliss! Anyway, today I wanted to share a big roundup of the best gray paint colors. We’re actually in the middle of our herringbone wall project down in my office and I need to pick out a paint color. My initial idea was to go for a soft gray, so I’ve been researching the best gray paint colors out there. I also asked for suggestions on IG stories, so I’ve got the most popular answers here too!

Now here’s a little peek of the herringbone wall we’re working on in my office! It’s almost halfway done. What color should it be??!!

Hopefully this helps if you’re looking for a gray paint color for your home! Gray is one of those colors that is hard to get right. It can really go purple or blue depending on the color of your trim, flooring, and even your decor. It can also change based on lighting in the room! I always think of gray as a chameleon color. It’s just plain tricky. But I think all of these are great options. Right now I’m leaning towards Americana Egg by Magnolia or Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams. Or maybe I’ll go in the opposite direction and do something dark and moody?! Would love to hear your suggestions!
I like the idea of a darker grey for your wall myself. That being said – Revere Pewter is hands down one of my favs. Our house had walls the color of peanut butter (no lie) when we moved in. So ugly. We went with Revere Pewter thru-out and I am not sorry!
That wall is going to be so pretty!!!
What is the size of the strips of wood??? My daughter is going to do an accent wall in her nursery and will need to use strips like that.
I like a true gray – one without undertones of green or brown …we went with Cement gray by Ben Moore. Couldn’t be happier ! 😊
Personally love, love Repose Gray. It was my go to in many many flipped houses. I don’t think I would do dark. I just sold a house with Benjamin Moore Classic Gray thruout, and it’s so awesome I want to use that again. Go look at it.
I think the Americana egg has too much green in it. To be safe I would use Magnolia Home Cupola. To really make a statement I would use Dior gray. I can’t wait to see the finished wall.
My bedroom is painted light French gray. I just love it, so calming! It was recommended in a magazine by a well known designer. It is a true gray classic color.
I say mix it up! Do something dark and moody. New year – new change!
Love the wall! I’d love to do something like this in my dining room on a big blank wall. For your office I’d say keep it light vs. moody. 🙂
So many beautiful gray color choices! I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. A darker one would be gorgeous as it seems like you have lots of good natural light in your house. Love that wall so much! Cant wait to see it all painted and finished.🥰
Oh Sarah, it’s stunning and Americana Egg sounds wonderful!
I actually really like pale oak by benjamin moore – it adds a little color but reflects light well. It is a soft neutral. I think it would go well with your area rug
These days I am really into darker moodier colors. They just have such an impact,
My 2 top favorites you listed are Dior Grey and Cupola. Dior would be my top pick. You know your space, I’m sure what ever you choose will be BEAUTIFUL!!!
I would love to see dark and moody😊
I love the French gray and Repose gray!
Looking at the color samples, Agreeable Gray reads as more of a greige while Repose Gray seems to be an actual light gray.
I used agreeable gray almost everywhere and repose gray in dining room. They are both great choices!
love that wall! i thoroughly enjoy keeping up with all your projects!! my top choices were stonington gray, cupola or french grey. nice and soft.
I’ve used repose gray several times and absolutely love it. It’s a true gray with not really any undertones coming out – it’s light and crisp. My other suggestion would be BM Stonington Gray. I think it would be a really pretty gray as well.
We did Revere Pewter throughout our new reno m and love it. I call it “gropey.” It’s the perfect balance between taupe and gray.
The wall looks great and paint colors are cool.
I am loving the magnolia homes boutique grey. I think it would be a nice choice for your wall.
xoxo 😊
Hi Sarah!
Wow, thank you for all this info on gray colours. I finally got my rug that you had in your old house, love it and has gray and ivory. Trying to decide which gray to paint my front room now. I think your would love the Magnolia Americana Egg for your office. It has a green tone to it
I used Repose Grey in my entire house and I love it! I did a lot of research around all of the different grey paints and learned they can have blue undertones making them cool greys or brown undertones making them warm greys. I went with the warm greys for my house to go with my hardwood floors and furniture. All the best with whatever you choose. I’m sure it will look awesome!
Absolutely loving the herringbone wall! I’m loving repose gray and stoningstone gray the most! I’m sure whatever you pick it’ll look awesome!! Can’t wait to see the finished product 😊
My husband and I just painted our kitchen, dining room, and living room in our new home Agreeable Gray! We love it! Also, I love that accent wall! I want to do something like that in one of my rooms.
Thank You for your post on gray paint colors. Took dark paint off end tables and put Stonington Gray! Perfect timing 😊
oh great, glad it was helpful Lori!
